Wed 4: Torso Practice n' Tips by genekelly Wed 4: Torso Practice n' Tips by genekelly
UPDATE: For more comic-related tutorials check out Rocketbot.com's growing How-To section. :)

Ha! It's a sickness apparently. I had my upper body sketches done and thought "you know, I should just make a few quick notes. That won't take too long." Riiiiiiight... so now let's just call it a mini-tutorial.

Anyway, Wednesday's little addition to Anatomy Practice Week is a look at the torso and a peek at some foreshortening and perspective with said torso. Sketches were based on various muscley images I googled online. Fun stuff all in all. :)

LOL I meant to say ripped. Must have been typing tired. ...And it really should. I haven't seen a tutorial that breaks the torso down structurally in this way. :)

the amount of detail you provided was very specific and good for judging how to arrange the torso. still tricky but a bit easier ;)

He looks like a dumpster with two sofas next to it, no offense but I've never seen anyone with so much muscle.
If you were going for a realistic portrail then I would scale down the strength.

yes. . .. I just. . .wish it can be dumbed down a little As in, how would you do this with someone less muscular?
Reply
:icongenekelly:
genekelly Featured By Owner Sep 4, 2010  Professional Digital Artist
Well, the same ideas apply in general. With someone less muscular you wouldn't see nearly as much squash and stretch of course. Depending on their physique you may still have the same twisting and overlap in their abs and you'd probably get some squash in their bicep when they flex. Otherwise you would probably just focus more on the size, overlap and surface of whatever limbs, body parts, etc you're drawing, like in this tutorial: [link]

Hope that helps a little.
