May Madness

Journal Entry: Sun May 4, 2008, 10:05 AM
  • Mood: Artistic
  • Reading: Sentinels vol. 3 & 4
  • Watching: BSG season 3
  • Playing: Witches in Bikinis' tunes
Okay, it's not really madness. It just sounded catchy. ;) Hey guys, just a little update. This month I'm continuing to work on pages for my upcoming Rocket & Bounce webcomic [link] for the Cranky Octopus [link] site. I'm also working on some illustrations for a book of spooky children's poems along with some other misc. drawin' stuff.

It's been a busy week, and very little of it had to do with drawing unfortunately. Monday - Wednesday my after work time was largely devoted to band practices and Thursday was a Witches in Bikinis show. Lots of fun, but not lotsa' drawin', lol. The Witches have a bunch of shows coming up this summer if any of you New York types want to come check out an amazingly fun show. Show dates and music tracks can be found at our MySpace page. --> [link]

The free sketches from last month were a lot of fun. When I get a couple things sorted out with my free time I'll probably end up doing some more of those. :)

I still need to see Iron Man. Darnit.

If you're a comics fan do yourself and favor and go read Sentinels!

I picked up the first two trades at the NY Comic Con and it was easily my favorite purchase of the weekend. Great character interaction and art, and an evolving, emotional and fun story with plenty of action. The perfect cure for those of you sick of the current state of superhero comics (well, at the big two anyway). Check out their website [link] or hop on over to the creator's DA page :iconricber: You'll be glad you did.

All for now,
Gene

That's right, 2008 is the year of the Octopus! Look for more of these characters this summer!

Hey Gene!
Thanks for the great comments. Wow, your favorite purchase of the weekend! I'm honored. I'm really glad you enjoyed the first two Sentinels books. I can honestly say they get better with books 3 and 4.
It was cool meeting you in NYC too. :)

Everyone says it's great. I would have seen it already, but the Mrs. is out of town this weekend and I didn't want to leave her out.

Thanks for the well wishes! It's a lot of work, but I'm excited about it. Much appreciated. :D

When you do go, make sure to stay until after the credits. It's way worth it. Even though it seems like they used one fourth of our population to make the damn movie.

I bet you say that to all the fans, lol. Actually I missed you at the booth and only got to chat with your two friends. Maybe next Con though. And I tracked down vols 3 and 4 and devoured them both in about a day and half, lol. You're right, they really build on the previous volumes and get stronger as they go. I have to admit, the last book had me a little choked up in places. Great stuff, man. Kudos. :D
*genekelly:icongenekelly: May 5, 2008, 7:39:18 AM
lol. That's what I hear. I'll definitely stick around through the credits. Thanks.

lol, are you sure? I thought I chatted with you. Crazy, maybe it was someone else from Deviant Art. I found at this con it's so hard to meet people from Deviant because I don't remember all the real names from the screen names. Yours I thought I had right though since it's the same. :) Sorry about that.
Glad to hear you found books 3 and 4. Sorry that the last one chocked you up a bit. But if it got that reaction from you then i did something right. :)
Thanks again for all the support!

No worries. Con weekends are just crazy. The one time I had a table I was downright terrible at keeping people straight, lol. And at the risk of sounding cheesy, I've had movies and books really get to me, but never a comic. Until now. So yeah, you kinda did alright, lol. ;)
