Rocketbot's own mad scientist, Queen Bex, was recently interviewed by UK comic shop The Proud Lion. How cool is that? Be sure to check it out as she talks about Rocketbot and some of her favorite comics.
So how about it comic creators, what are your goals with your comic? Is posting it on the web and just being able to share it the end game? Are you hoping to complete a massive collection of pages in order to collect and print a graphic novel? Maybe via Kickstarter? Or maybe a series of smaller print comics has always been your dream? Or are you more interested in the newer digital models of publishing? Apps like comiXology, which sell comics digitally through exclusive comic reader software, have started to open their doors to independent creators. Groups like graphic.ly offer to publish your digitial comics to a wide varity of platforms. Some creators like Evil Inc's Brad Guigar and The Private Eye's Brian K. Vaughn & Marcos Martin sell their digital comics firsthand through their own websites, skipping other publishers (and their fees) all together.
Comic creators have never had a more varied, viable and exciting number of options for publishing their comics (digitally or in print) than they do right now. And things are still evolving!
As Mary and I continue to develop Rocketbot.com, we've been taking a hard look at what the site offers and how to improve it to help benefit its members even more. We have a lot of big ideas, but a big part of this process is finding out what people want in the first place. We're very proud of the Rocketbot Comics Anthology, our first collection of comics from the Rocketbot community, but with the ever changing face of comics publishing, what do YOU want from your comics, now and in the future?

Good sir, I think Kickstarter would be helpfull, be sure to research as much as possible and not ask for more then you need, and as most of the time it goes over the target, have a continuency plan for the extra cash in order to explain yours plans fully to the tax man.
I have just completed a business course so I can understand the complexity of setting out the possibilties in your plans.
Everyone needs a hand starting out. A community like Rocketbot is a great starting hub and a good place for some market research.
Partnerships are a good idea, share the liabilty, motivate each other and bounce ideas off of one another.
As I get closer to self employment I realise that e-books might be the way to crack into the industry, easy to set up, either downloading set formats and do it myself or paying someone else to convert it into ebook format for me.
Perhaps it could be the same for the comic industry at the moment, using digit media/ formats to get your work out there and build a following before talking to publishers.
Could Rocketbot have a section all about the different ways to make money and the stages to take. Eg. I was clueless about self employment until I did this course. Market research, elevator pitch, cashflow forecasts, tax forms, business plans, where to get funding if needed etc.
